Back to Reality

Well I am sad to say that Spring break is now officially over and it is time to go back to reality. When I say “reality” I basically mean having to wake up early and spend my days being productive instead of what I really spent my days doing. This year my spring break was not your typical partying it up at a beach in Mexico type of vacation it was more like sleeping in and binge watching Netflix all while remaining in my pajamas, although I did have some fun experiences that created long lasting memories. I went on a spontaneous road trip to San Francisco for the day with one of my best friends and spent another day I in Fresno taking a campus tour with my sister and spending the day window-shopping since I am a broke college student. I have mixed feelings about having a week off in the middle of the semester; the pro to this has to be that I can take time to focus on recovering mentally from all the stress. The downside is definitely getting back into the swing of things after being lazy for an entire week. I have always struggled with managing to get back into my original state of mind after a break; am I the only one because it seems like everyone else goes back to reality as if it is the easiest thing ever.  I on the other hand can barely get myself together to go to school and stay focused on my schoolwork.

A New Routine

Given my rough start with staying on track I have been doing a new routine and so far it has been working better than what I was doing in the past. Before my day would consist of me getting home from school and eat and watch Netflix, do SOME homework; emphasis on some, then just lie in bed and switch between homework and Netflix.  Now I like to think of myself as being more productive because I find myself making the most out of my days. My new routine consists of going to the gym right after school so that I can distress. Writing in my planner has also been a great help, I write down all of my assignment that I need to do and number them by priority. This has been very helpful because I spend the majority of my time on the important assignments instead of the small assignments that I can do in my spare time. Another change to my schedule is cutting down on the amount of Netflix that I watch, as well as keeping organized. I am already an organized person but I never realized how important it would be when trying to keep myself on task. By organized I mean that I keep everything that I will need in order to complete my task at hands reach. This helps me because I do not get distracted when looking for everything that I need. Color coordinating has grown very important; by color coordinating all of my classes I can keep track of when all of my readings are due as well as when my exams are coming up so that I have enough time to prepare. My new routine has proven to work better for me than my previous one, hopefully I can stick to it.

Catch Up Week

So this week I can already tell is going to be a catching up week; catching up with all of the work that I have fallen back on doing to do and all of the reading that I have neglected doing. My procrastination has not been at the level that it was last week; I think that I had a major wake up call. So in order to overcome my past mistakes I am trying to find new ways to get my work done and stay on task; any suggestions? I’d appreciate it. Lately I have felt very overwhelmed, and I now understand why people go to the gym. I have found a new sense of comfort in the gym, it helps me to clear my mind and regain my sense of focus. It has been with this new sense of focus that I feel more prepared to take on my college responsibilities. The only thing that I need to work on now is managing my time better or just making the most out of my free time. I have a huge political science test on Thursday and I have no idea where to start or even how to start. This for me is a slight problem considering the fact that I do not necessarily pay attention throughout the entire lecture; considering it is a three-hour night class. This night class was probably one of my worst ideas; and now I have to find a way to be successful at it. So hopefully I can manage my time and do everything that is necessary it get a good grade. Wish me luck.
